10: A SILENT STORM

Manoj knocked softly at first, his voice low and unsteady as he said.

“Bhumi… hey, my little doll, open the door. Please.” Megha’s voice followed instantly, shaking in a way that betrayed her guilt as she whispered, “Bhumi, at least listen to us… We know we made a mistake. Just open the door once.” But inside, Bhumi pressed her back against the door, slid down to the floor, buried her face in her hands, and let the tears fall unchecked as she whispered into the air.
