CHAPTER 14

Jhankar is standing quietly with Vikrant, and Sharda is sitting in a wheelchair. As per her instructions, the oldest woman of the house is performing a welcome prayer for both of them so that they can be welcomed into the house. Vikrant is smiling at Sharda, but she is not returning the smile, instead focusing on Jhankar, who is standing with her eyes downcast. She has some of her bag in her hand, which she holds tightly, which she brings from her house. Vikrant also tries to look at Jhankar from the corner of his eyes because he had tried to take this bag so that she could go inside comfortably and it would reach her, but she neither likes to talk to him nor wants to share anything with him. She just shook off his hand and is standing with him at the door of his house carrying her bag. Once the prayer concludes, Sharda speaks affectionately to Jhankar.

"Put your right foot forward, gently tip over this rice urn, step into the vermilion plate, and enter the house with your auspicious feet."
